FS: What is the history of the firm?
PL: We started the firm with 8 people in 2008, focussed purely on accounting and built on the belief that we could do things differently and have a heap of fun along the way. Our aim was to provide advice and create new opportunities for family owned businesses and entrepreneurial clients.
FS: Awareness of The Blue Rock brand is growing rapidly in the Melbourne market. How has this been achieved?
PL: We made a conscious decision not to advertise but rather create and build a brand that would speak for itself. Our growth has been organic by way of referrals from our clients.
FS: Describe the range of services you provide.
PL: We cover 5 disciplines including Accounting, Legal, Private Wealth, Finance and Digital which includes digital marketing and technology solutions. In this new age our Digital team is the most exciting up and coming division and a powerful resource for our clients.
FS: How many partners and staff make up the team?
PL: Across our senior management team we have 16 partners and our total staff numbers are currently at 121 and growing. Accounting is our biggest division with about 50% of our staff working in that area.
FS: Your firm has one of the most colourful and eclectic offices (and websites) that we have ever seen – more like a modern art gallery! How did this all come about and how do your clients react when they first visit? Why the big white horse in reception?
PL: We wanted to smash the cultural norms associated with the professional services industry and provide our staff and clients with something refreshingly different. Our office and website provide a snapshot into our culture and how we challenge the status quo. Our staff and clients love the fun environment that we create here at BlueRock and why not have a big horse in reception?
FS: What are the firm’s plans for the future?
PL: Big plans ahead at BlueRock HQ. I won’t elaborate here, but “watch this space”!
