Introduction to The Gap

Created by accountants, for accountants, The Gap is a ‘one of a kind’ business advisory and client development solution for accounting firms.

Founders and Chartered Accountants Viv Brownrigg and Mark Jenkins established The Gap in 2014. Their driving purpose was very simple. They had both built successful accounting practices that focused on providing tangible advisory and development services to clients. They wanted accounting firms to stop making excuses for not providing these services and step up to help their clients run a better business. They pooled their systems and content, built a great team and together they set out to build a ‘first of its kind’ Business Development Portal.

Five years on the Gap team have created a world class product. Practical and proven, The Gap provides accountants with an end-to-end system for a range of tangible value-add services. It’s hard to describe the level of detail in this short intro, but basically The Gap provides all the marketing, sales and delivery content you’ll ever need to provide these services to clients. The level of detail is incredible, right down for example to detailed delivery notes that set out exactly how to run a four-hour business planning session. We can only imagine the tens of thousands of hours that have gone into this product.

They also understand the soft skills that have been seriously neglected in the accounting industry – Great communication, speaking wider than the numbers, being comfortable selling (but never as a product pusher!) and demonstrating real empathy for clients and their day to day problems and challenges. Those neglected soft skills sit at the heart of their much-loved education programmes. Their day-long workshops develop these soft skills in accountants, as well as the finer points of delivering advisory and development services to clients. Their technology platform helps accountants produce proposals in minutes and connect with their clients seamlessly as they deliver these services.

With more than 330 firms based in New Zealand, Australia and the UK, they’ve built a tight community of accountants who are proud of the difference they’re making to their clients’ lives.
