My Town – Sale, Victoria

My Town

My name is Mathew Johns and I’m the Managing Director of DMG Financial located in Sale, Victoria.  I started as a trainee accountant back in 1996 and continue to work as an accountant and share my time servicing clients for their business accounting needs and managing DMG Financial.

 DMG Financial Sale

Sale, Victoria was formally known as Flooding Creek before a name change in 1851 as a tribute to Major General Sir Robert Sale. The town is situated 212km from Victoria’s capital city of Melbourne and 105km from the popular coastal town of Lakes Entrance.

Sale greatly benefited from the 1851 Gold Rush at Omeo as it was an important base for the goldfields. In 1851 the population reached 1,800 and as of now has a population of approximately 15,000 residents.

The town is well known for the RAAF Base East Sale which is one of the main training establishments of the Royal Australian Air Force and is home to The Roulettes aerobatic team. The base houses approximately 700 air force personnel. Sale experienced a boom when oil was discovered offshore in 1965, the town is now well-known for Esso’s Longford gas plant.

Major attractions in the town are Lake Guthridge which is also home to the Sale Botanical gardens. Each year on the March long weekend the gardens are host to the Sale Music Festival bringing the town together to enjoy local talent.

Sale Habour

The Port of Sale is in the heart of the township connecting natural waterways and the Gippsland Lakes. The Port provides access from Sale to Lakes Entrance by water. Recently, in 2018 a major redevelopment of Sale Civic Centre (located at the Port of Sale) became the new and improved Wellington Centre. This is home to a variety of things such as Sale Library, Gippsland Art Gallery, Sale Visitor Centre, Café and community spaces. The area also showcases the popular Wedge Performing Arts Centre which hosts a variety of local, national and international acts throughout the year.

Local sport is generally what brings the town together with two major football and netball clubs, tennis, cricket, soccer, hockey and a variety of other sports. Sale is well-known for many state and nation-wide sports stars.

DMG Financial supports the local community via various sponsorships and fundraising efforts. We offer Financial Planning and Accounting Services to the wider community and are a part of the local BNI Chapter which supports local businesses in our area.
